After their new full length ‘A Crash Course in Cranium Crushing’ got released by Unique Leader Records the 26th of January, Serial Butcher planned a release party to unleash their brand new madness unto the Belgian masses. A local bar in Zwalm called ‘The Giraf’, seemed like the excellent place for it. Although the location was kind of isolated from the major cities in Belgium, lots of people came through the door that night. Some to get to know their music for the first time and some who already knew what to expect from this brutal death metal band.

When you walked into the room, it seemed like a perfect place for a release party. A big open space where the crowd could get wild and a reachable bar at the side. And also a good spot for the bands, to place their material and brutalize their instruments.
I really was stunned by the p.a., because this guy had brought like many of these big speakers and lights, so nobody could complain they didn’t hear or see the two bands that evening (except if they were too drunk)! And of course the quality was really nice too.

The first band to open the event was Putrid Inbred, good friends of Serial Butcher and partners in crime.

They took off with a crawling death metal riff and bang, they switched into fast pounding death f*cking metal. During the tracks, the riffs changed to more mid tempo grinding parts, so they make you go wild and groove all the time! The crowd seemed to love this combination and so did I from where I sat.

Then it was Serial Butcher's turn to show off their techniques. It immediately was clear that they were the band of the evening. They exploded into a successful mix of brutal grunts, hard guitar-violence and mind-blowing drums that pound through the room as a wild machine gun. There's a lot going on in Serial Butcher's music, but standing there listening to them gives you such an adrenaline kick that you can forget time and space. They introduced some new material, like 'Franky in the Fridge', but also the traditionally Dying Fetus-cover 'Kill your mother, rape your dog' couldn't be forgotten. The audience couldn't get enough of them because after their setlist was finished, everybody kept screaming for more. So Serial Butcher kept playing until the vocalist Kurt gave up after the amounts of beer kicked in. But still, the release show ended in a huge party!
